WHY PEOPLE NEED THE CROWD, AND HOW TO BREAK IT

Why do you care so much about what people think, even when those people not paying your bills, not helping you raise your kids, not dying for your sins, and don't have a heaven or hell for you?

You can be doing good all week, then one look, one comment, one little “unfollow,” and now your spirit is heavy. Now you are replaying it in your head. Now you are rewriting your words. Now you are explaining yourself to people who don’t even deserve access to you.

That’s not “just social media.” That’s training. That’s ownership.

The fear of man is a trap.

Proverbs 29:25 "The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe."

A snare is what you catch animals with. A snare don’t fight you, it waits. That’s what approval does. It waits for you to need it.

You don’t even notice it at first. You call it being “nice.” You call it being “cool.” You call it being “easy to work with.” Meanwhile you have been negotiating your obedience just to avoid someone's disapproval.

And you know what makes it worse? Some of you don’t even want to be loved, you want to be accepted by people who are broken, unstable, and double minded. So now your peace is attached to something that can’t even stand up on its own.

This comes from, pain, not personality. Most people don’t become a people-pleaser because they are “sweet,” they become that way because they got hit somewhere.

Rejection wounds. Shame. Being teased. Being left out. Being embarrassed in front of people. Growing up feeling like love only came when you performed.

So your brain wrote a survival rule;

“If I don’t impress, I’m not safe.”

“If I don’t fit, I get dropped.”

“If I don’t get picked, I’m nothing.”

That turns into image management. Over-explaining. Always checking the room. Always reading faces. Always trying to avoid being judged.

This isn't about you being weak, it’s about you being trained. Social media turned the wound into a daily ritual. You can be free all week, then one post makes you relapse.

You check likes. You check views.

You check comments. Your mood follows it.

That’s not you living, that’s you being owned.

And Jesus already told you what that life looks like.

Matthew 6:1 "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven."

It’s possible to do the right thing with the wrong hunger. It’s possible to be “righteous” and still be starving for applause.

John 12:43 "For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God."

That verse is a mirror. Because it exposes the real treasure. Not money, not clothes, not success, praise. And if praise is your treasure, you will keep selling your soul to get it.

The Kingdom is a value system before it is a location.

Matthew 13:44 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field, the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field."

He sold everything because he finally saw what was real. That’s the point. When you finally see treasure, you stop grieving the trash you have to leave behind. And the Kingdom works the same way. If your values doesn’t change, your location won’t save you.

Because if you still need the crowd, you will trade treasure for acceptance every time.

You will sell your obedience to buy comfort. You will sell your identity to buy friends.

You will sell your peace to buy applause.

Luke 12:34 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Your heart follows what you call treasure. Your time follows it. Your money follows it. Your decisions follow it. So if your treasure is approval, your heart is going to stay nervous, because approval always changes.

The crowd is unstable. Today they love you, tomorrow they drag you.

In that parable, the treasure was hid in the field. Why?

Because thieves existed back then, and thieves exist right now. And here’s the part that makes people uncomfortable.

If you are the treasure, why are you still buried? Why you still trapped in their devices?

Why you still sitting around watching their world all day? Why you still eating their culture, their entertainment, their music, their trends, their opinions, like that’s normal?

Because if they can keep you distracted, they can keep you from digging. If they can keep you performing, they can keep you from transforming.

Romans 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

Conformed means pressed into a shape. That’s the crowd. They don’t even need to hate you, they just need to shape you. Why does it irritate people when you live different? This is one of the clearest signs you are breaking free.

When you start living different, people get angry, not curious. If you wear a dress, why is there such a fight? If you don’t eat pork, why do people get offended? If you don’t listen to worldly music, why do people want to punish you?

Because your difference is a mirror. Your obedience exposes their excuses. Your discipline makes their laziness look loud. And some people would rather attack you than face what they already know.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

How to break it, for real.

Admit what you’ve been using the crowd for. Approval has been medication. It numbs rejection pain. It covers insecurity. It gives a quick hit of belonging.

Cut off the ritual that feeds the wound. If you know getting likes control you, stop checking them like a paycheck. If comments wreck your spirit, stop reading them like Bible.

Replace the crowd voice with God’s voice. If you don’t fill that space, the crowd will. You need a new reward system, a new “well done.”

Choose obedience even when it costs you social comfort. That’s the moment the chain breaks. When you do right and accept that some people will misunderstand you, mock you, and leave, and you still do it anyway.

You can’t allow the crowd to be your god. Stop outsourcing your worth. Healing is when your value comes from God, not from reactions.

If the crowd can move you, they can own you. But if God is your treasure, your heart finally has somewhere stable to live.

This kinda represents me, I say this because I have a passion, when I started to pursue this passion people talked about me and what I was doing. So I did less and stopped sharing. God opened my eyes and showed me that I can do all things through christ and I don't need to listen to the haters that laugh at me. And I think that made me stronger.

Theres no point to keep going with trusting your life and sanity in anything that isnt God. Social media is a construct that will fall one day or another. Placing your trust in something you know is going to be temporary is never a good idea. God is forever permanent 💪🏿
