Should Saint own guns?

The real question should be Can saints defend themselves?

We get a little discouraged by the passage of scripture that instructs us to turn the other cheek.

Matthew 5:39

“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

In his infinite wisdom, Jesus is teaching us not to be revengeful. Vengeance will destroy you as it is never satisfied.

Jesus is teaching us how to be free from trying to get even with an evil person.

No where in this pericope is God instructing us to stand there while someone is slapping fire from our face. No where is God expecting you to not defend yourself.

Jesus is reiterating the law not to avenge nor bear any grudge against an Israelite and to love your people.

Leviticus 19:18

“Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.”

We know family is the backbone of any peaceful civilization.

The constant desire to get revenge will never result in peace.

Proverbs 24:29

“Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.”

We do however see Many times where we are admonished to defend ourselves and family.

Even if that requires the life of your attacker.

Exodus 22:2

“If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.”

There is no penalty for self defense.

If someone breaks into your home and the Plumber left his wrench on your kitchen table, Using that wrench would be a blessing from the Lord. Having your own wrench ready and available is wisdom.

Luke 22:36

“Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.”

Whatever tool that prevails in the defense of yourself or family is your choice. Get the proper training, get the proper mental stability, get the tool that best suits your family up to and including a canon if you can legally own one.

Nehemiah 4:14

“And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”
